This policy explains what we collect when you visit Way of the Runes, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it under GDPR and similar regimes.
What we collect
- Pages you visit. URL, referrer, page title, scroll depth.
- Device and browser. Approximate location, language, screen size, user-agent.
- A persistent identifier. Mixpanel assigns your browser an id that survives across visits, so separate visits can be recognised as the same person.
- Newsletter sign-ups. Email address only, with explicit double opt-in.
We do not collect names, addresses, raw IP addresses, or anything you have not knowingly given us. Text you type into an on-page tool, such as the rune converter, stays in your browser: it is never sent to us or to any vendor, and nothing on this site records your screen.
Why we collect it
- To understand which posts land and which don't.
- To attribute Facebook and Instagram ad clicks to visits, so we know which ads are worth running.
- To send a newsletter you have explicitly subscribed to.
Who we share it with
Four third-party vendors: Google Analytics 4, Yandex Metrica, Meta Pixel, and Mixpanel. Full list with storage names and durations on the cookies page.
We do not sell any data to anyone.
Analytics is not opt-in
We should be plain about this. Analytics loads for every visitor on the first page view. The notice bar you saw on your first visit is informational: it tells you measurement is happening, and dismissing it records nothing except that you have seen it. There is no consent gate behind it, and "Manage cookies" in the footer only brings the notice back rather than withdrawing anything.
The controls that do work are your browser's and each vendor's, listed on the cookies page.
How long we keep it
Analytics data is aggregated by the vendors per their retention policies (GA4: 14 months, Yandex: 25 months, Meta: 90 days for events, Mixpanel: per our project's retention setting). Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
- Opt out. Browser settings, per-vendor opt-outs, and
Do Not Track, which Mixpanel and Yandex Metrica both honour. All listed on the cookies page. - Request a copy of any data we hold tied to you.
- Request deletion of any data we hold tied to you.
- Object to processing, or lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
